Roofing invoice template

A roofing invoice should list roof size in squares, tear-off and layers removed, shingles and underlayment, flashing and vents, decking replaced per sheet, disposal and permit fees, the deposit or insurance payments received and the balance.

What goes on a roofing invoice

Roofers price in squares, where one square covers 100 square feet of roof. Tear-off, shingles and underlayment all scale with that number, while drip edge and ridge vent go by the linear foot. Rotten decking is the big unknown, so contracts often set a price per sheet and bill what was actually replaced.

This sample invoice is for a 28-square reroof in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, after a hail season. It shows tear-off of one layer, architectural shingles, ice and water shield in the valleys, twelve sheets of new decking, a dumpster and the permit, with the deposit credited. The rates are example 2026 prices only.

How to bill as a roofer

  1. Price everything you can by the square

Tear-off, shingles and underlayment scale cleanly with roof area. Add a waste factor for hips and valleys inside the material count. Homeowners and adjusters both think in squares, so your invoice reads the way their paperwork does.

  2. Set a per-sheet decking price before you start

You can't see rotten plywood until the old roof is off. Put a per-sheet replacement price in the contract and bill the actual count with photos. It turns a likely argument into simple math.

  3. Bill insurance jobs to the approved scope

On a claim, match your invoice to the adjuster's line items and send supplements for anything they missed, like drip edge or code upgrades. The insurer often pays in two checks, with depreciation released after they see your final invoice.

  4. Take a deposit before material drops

Shingles for a full roof are a big outlay, and a delivery can't easily go back. Many roofers collect a deposit at signing or when the first insurance check arrives. Invoicefy lets you record it and any partial payments, so the final invoice shows exactly what's left.

  5. Print your warranty on the final invoice

Spell out your workmanship warranty and remind the homeowner to register the shingle warranty. It costs a sentence and saves a lot of phone calls after the next storm.

Questions people ask

A square is 100 square feet of roof surface. A 28-square roof covers about 2,800 square feet, which is more than the home's floor area because of pitch and overhangs.
